WAYNESBURG – Beef bourguignon, smoked brisket, ham and turkey are just a few of the 20 entrees that will be served up by 32 culinary students at the Greene County Career and Technology Center’s 27th annual Christmas Buffet Friday.

The luncheon has become a mouth-watering tradition and this year’s theme will be an “international buffet,” according to Dan Wagner, the culinary arts advisor at GCCTC.

“It’s going to have various foods from around the United States and around the globe,” he said.

He also said that this year, they are adding two dining rooms to the event, which will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the school located at 60 Zimmerman Drive, Waynesburg.

Wagner said the students will also prepare one vegetarian entrée and one gluten free entrée, along with 16 different salads and several desserts. He said they’ve spent the past two weeks cooking the feast.

“The buffet goes all the way down the hall,” he said. “We wouldn’t be able to do this without the support from the school’s administration. It’s just a great community event because we’ll have so many people show up.”

He said the Waynesburg High School chorus and ensemble band will be performing during the luncheon.

“We’ll have people gathered and reminiscing, and the Waynesburg chorus will be singing in the lobby,” Wagner said. “It’s just one of the things that everyone comes to like a big family, but with tons of food.”

The students will have guest chefs joining them in the kitchen Friday. Chef Jeff McMurdy studied at the Pennsylvania Culinary Institute in Pittsburgh and used to be the executive chef for H.J. Heinz. Chef Jeff Cecil, who studied at Sullivan University in Kentucky, used to cook for Kenney Chesney and George Strait.

“They bring their own flare to things,” Wagner said.

The luncheon buffet costs $12 per person and can be purchased at the door.
