Clarkville Lions honor J-M students
Clarksville Lions Club has selected its students of the month for the first four months of the school year. They are:
Caroline DePhillips, daughter of Kandy Camps and Robert DePhillips of Waynesburg, who was selected September Student of the Month.
DePhillips maintains a 3.04 grade-point average and serves as editor-in-chief for the Jefferson-Morgan Rocket Reporter, the school district’s student run newspaper, and is a three-year journalism student.
She volunteers for spaghetti dinners at her church, Washington Alliance, and when she was a member of First Church of the Nazarene, DePhillips earned the Phineas F. Bresee Award through her participation in Caravan, a Christian scout program. The award is the highest an individual can receive in Caravan.
After graduation, DePhillips plans to go on a mission trip. In the fall, she plans to major in intercultural studies for missionary work at Lee University in Cleveland, Tenn.
Anna Mattish, daughter of Chuck and Lisa Mattish of Clarksville, who was October Student of the Month.
Mattish is a member of the volleyball team, captain of the basketball team and a member of the softball team. She also participates in drama club, foreign language club and academic team. Mattish is an alter server at St. Marcellus Church.
After graduation, she plans to attend either California University of Pennsylvania or Clarion University to study criminal justice. She also plans to play volleyball while attending school.
Michael Pochron, son of Mark and Lori Pochron of Rices Landing, who was chose November Student of the Month.
Pochron maintains a 3.29 grade-point average. He is a four-year member of the Waynesburg rifle team and a four-year member of the Jefferson-Morgan band, serving as section leader for the drum line and as president.
As a member of Leo Club, Pochron has rung bells for the Salvation Army, volunteered at various spaghetti dinners and helped maintain the Leo Club’s assigned road for the Keep America Beautiful campaign.
In the fall, Pochron plans to attend California University of Pennsylvania to study literature and history, while pursuing a minor in special education.
Keon Dohn, son of Howard Dohn and Jeannette Curran of Waynesburg, who was selected December Student of the Month.
Dohn, who maintains a 3.62 grade-point average, is a four-year trombonist for the Jefferson-Morgan band. He has volunteered for car washes and spaghetti dinners to raise money for the band.
As a four-year member of Upward Bound, Dohn has participated in multiple 5K walks to raise money for charities, including the American Red Cross and the Humane Society of Greene County. Keon has attended the Upward Bound summer program sponsored by California University of Pennsylvania for the last three summers.
After graduation, Dohn plans to pursue a degree in physics.
