School registration
Burgettstown Area School District will hold registration for kindergartners, plus first-graders new to the district, for the 2016-17 school year from 9:30 a.m. to noon and 1 to 2:30 p.m. at Burgettstown Area Elementary Center, 100 Bavington Road, as follows: March 9 for children whose last names begin with A to M and March 10 for children whose last names begin with N to Z. Children must be 5 years old by Aug. 31 to enter kindergarten. For questions about age requirements, call the elementary principal’s office at 724-947-8150. Parents must bring the child’s official birth certificate, immunization records and proof of residency to registration. State law mandates the following minimum immunization requirements for all students entering school for the first time: three doses of hepatitis B vaccine; second dose of measles vaccine; fourth dose of tetanus and diphtheria vaccine; three doses of polio vaccine; and two doses of chicken pox vaccine, history of disease or lab test. A physical and dental exam must be completed before the first day of school. Required forms will be provided at registration. Any parent registering a child who requests specific restrictions involving custody or guardian issues must present a court order defining those restrictions. It is not necessary for children to accompany their parent or guardian to registration.
John F. Kennedy Catholic School is accepting new student registration for its 3- and 4-year-old preschool, including a five-day kindergarten-readiness program. Full- and half-day kindergarten programs are available. JFK also offers morning care beginning at 7 a.m. and extended care until 6 p.m. daily.
