Multiculturalism and nature meet when California University of Pennsylvania hosts the Wilderness Education Association’s 2016 International Conference on Outdoor Leadership Thursday through Saturday.

Two events are open to the public and are free. They are:

• Film screenings – 7 p.m. Friday in Vulcan Theatre. The award-winning films are “An American Ascent,” a documentary about the first African-American team of mountain climbers to summit Denali, Alaska’s highest peak, and “Love Thy Nature,” an exploration of humankind’s relationship with the natural world.

• Keynote address – 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the south wing of the Convocation Center. James Edward Mills, author of “The Adventure Gap: Changing the Face of the Outdoors,” will discuss role models who are encouraging minority populations to experience and enjoy the nation’s wilderness areas, using “Expedition Denali” as the starting point.

Parking is available in the Vulcan Garage, off Third Street near the campus entrance.
