Chess Club will meet from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturdays, Feb. 6 through March 12. All ages and levels of experience are welcome. In April, the Chess Club will return to meeting once a month.
Lego Club will meet from 5 to 6 p.m. Feb. 8 and 22. The Feb. 8 session will have a “Star Wars” theme, and participants are invited to dress in costume. The program is open to all ages, although it is recommended for ages 5 and older. The Children’s Department also is accepting donations of new or gently used Lego sets.
Noontime Lunch with Friends will be held Feb. 9. Dr. Candace DeBerry will discuss “Ecological Gardening.” The program is free, and lunch is available afterward for a fee.

Tai Chi for adults 18 and older is held from 6:45 to 8:15 p.m. Tuesdays. Wear comfortable clothing.
Wednesday Matinees are held each week from 1 to 3 p.m. Movie titles are available on the library’s website or by calling the library.
Preschool Science for 3- to 5-year-olds plus a caregiver will be held from 11 a.m. to noon every Thursday in February. Cost is $8 per class. All classes include gooey, hands-on science experiments, and the instructor shares a book relevant to the class themes. Registration is required by clicking on Events on the library’s website.
Magic Dragon for first- through fifth-graders will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday. Young artists and writers will watch a brief instructional video from the “Art Lessons from Children” series, then work on their own creations. Registration is required.
Writing Workshop will be held Saturday, March 5 and April 2 as follows: third- and fourth-graders, 10 a.m.; fifth- through eighth-graders, 11 a.m.; and ninth- through 12th-graders, 12:30 p.m. Participants should bring a writing device or email Jody Wilson at wilsonj@einetwork.net to reserve a library device while supplies last. The new SAT with Omega Learning Systems seminar will be presented from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Feb. 11. Teens can take a free SAT and/or ACT evaluation test at the free seminar. Parents and teens must register.
Reading Social will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Feb. 16. “Wild Swan” by Jung Chang will be discussed.
Children’s Choice Book Club – The League of Beastly Dreadfuls will meet from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Feb. 18. To join, email wilsonj@einetwork.net with your library card number so “Sword of Summer” can be placed on hold. It may take up to four weeks for the book to arrive.
It’s All Natural Science – Journey Through Time will be held Feb. 20 as follows: first- through third-graders, 1 to 2:30 p.m. and fourth- through sixth-graders, 3 to 4:30 p.m. Registration begins Saturday.
Adult Book Club will meet from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Feb. 22. “Empress Dowager” by Jung Chang will be discussed. Registration is requested but not required.
Book Flix Book Club for first- and second-graders will be held from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. Feb. 23. BookFlix is an online literacy resource that pairs classic video storybooks with related nonfiction eBooks. Registration is required, and caregivers are asked to remain in the library during the program.
Magic Treehouse & Beyond for second- through fourth-graders will be held from 7 to 7:45 p.m. Feb. 23. Copies of each month’s book are on display at the library for checkout. Registration is required.
Annual County Qualifying Chess Tournament for kindergartners through eighth-graders will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Feb. 27. Entry forms must be completed in person by Feb. 22. Trophies will be awarded to first- and second-place winners in the kindergarten through fourth grade and fifth through eighth grade. First-place winners in each category qualify for the countywide chess tournament.
