Dr. Fred Lapisardi, director of writing programs at Market Street Academy, is offering free weekly classes for the blind and vision impaired at 1 p.m. Fridays at the Fayette County Association for the Blind in Uniontown.

“I call the program verbal scrapbooking because we take topics, such as first memories, failure and hope, family feuds, traditions, brushes with death and a few dozen others, discuss them in class, then go home and write about them,” said Lapisardi, who is visually impaired. “Eventually, these little snippets of memory add up and provide students with a wide range of topics to write about.

The Association for the Blind has equipment, such as computers, projection devices and Braille keyboards, to assist participants’ special needs.

To enroll in the class and other Fayette County Association for the Blind programs, call Kylie Sims at 724 437-2791.
