Fayette Co. to hold Firemen’s Convention
The 78th annual Fayette County Firemen’s Convention will be held July 12-16 at Dunbar Volunteer Fire Company, which is marking its 100th anniversary.
Dunbar and Morrell Volunteer Fire companies are co-hosting the convention.
A memorial service will be held at 4:30 p.m. July 10 at Franklin United Methodist Church, 54 Bridge St., Dunbar. The annual service, now in its 29th year, honors association members who have died. A banquet will follow in Morrell’s social hall at 1323 University Drive, Dunbar Township.
Fayette County is home to 51 fire companies with 31,000 members. The weeklong convention will feature free activities for all ages, and will include firefighting skills competitions, musical entertainment and a parade at 4 p.m. July 16.
Kids’ night is July 14, and the Battle of the Barrel is July 15. Local fire departments will have an events schedule.
