Active Christian Seniors of Canonsburg United Presbyterian Church will host a railroad excursion through Western Maryland May 13.

The group will leave the church parking lot at 7 a.m. and return around 8 p.m. The guided tour will include a bus ride to Cumberland, Md., through the C&O Canal National Historical Park and Visitors Museum.

Participants will then board a train powered by a steam engine for an excursion through the Allegheny Mountains to Frostburg, Md. A tour of the Thrasher Carriage Museum will follow, and lunch will be served at the Princess Restaurant.

The final stop will be a tour of Emmanuel Episcopal Church, built in 1849, in Fort Cumberland. A guide will explain the history of the site of the church and lead a journey through tunnels where slaves were hidden from authorities.

Cost is $125 per person. Payment and reservations should be made at the church office by calling 724-745-0800. Payment in full is due by April 10.
