The Italian-American Cultural & Heritage Society of Washington County awarded scholarships to 10 area students. Students were selected based on the following criteria: a one-page essay expressing their insights as a member of an Italian-American family; high academic achievement with at least a 3.5 grade-point average in a college-bound curriculum; participation and evidence of leadership in co-curricular activities; and a strong recommendation by a school staff member or official. Each scholarship is worth $3,000. Awardees will be honored May 15 at the Hilton Garden Inn at Southpointe. The organization has given out 180 scholarships to Washington County residents since 1992. Recipients are the following:

Victoria Rose Cicci, a student at Bentworth Area High School and the daughter of Anthony and Lisa Ambrose Cicci of Cokeburg has a 4.43 GPA. She is a member of the National Honor Society, varsity soccer team, school musical and band auxiliary

Vincent Reed DeRienzo, a student at Peters Township High School and the son of Dante and Mary DeRienzo of Peters Township, has maintained a 4.47 GPA. DeRienzo is in the Forensics Speech and Debate Club and is active in the Photography Club and Dramafest.

Domenic Vincent Ennace, a student at Canon-McMillan High School and the son of Vincent and Diane Filipponi Eannace of North Strabane Township, has a 4.23 GPA. Ennace is a member of the National Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society and played on basketball and football teams.

Emma Layne Flickinger, a student at Trinity Area High School and the daughter of Richard and Carol Aumenta Fllickenger of South Strabane Township, has a 4.41 GPA. Flickinger is a member of the National Honor Society, Leadership Club, chamber choir, cross country team, track and field team, swimming team, Tri-M Music Honor Society, Girls State Auxiliary and SHO Committee.

Angelo Joseph Marino, a student at Trinity Area High School and the son of Angelo and Susan Marino of South Strabane, has a 4.62 GPA. Marino is a member of the National Honor Society, school newspaper, Student Council, wrestling team and math league.

Jared Joseph Miller, a student at Charleroi Area High School and the son of Joseph and Holly Iacovino Miller of Charleroi, has a 4.50 GPA. Miller has been involved in the STEM Club, Chemistry Club, National Honor Society, as well as a member of the golf team

Jayde Eileen Morgan, a student at Bishop Canevin High School and the daughter of Bruce and Felicia Filipponi Morgan of Canton Township, has a 4.88 GPA. She is a member of the softball and volleyball teams, as well as the World Language Club, Drama Club, FBLA, concert choir, school play cast, yearbook staff and National Honor Society.

Jordan Hunter Rossell, a student at California Area High School and the son of Stanley and Robin Rossell of Coal Center, with a 4.0 non-weighted GPA. He is a member of the baseball, track and cross country teams, as well the Drama Club, SADD Club, Student Forum, Student Council and Envirothon Team.

Maria Teresa Stopenski, a student at Canon-McMillan High School and the daughter of David Julian and Lucia Scandale Stopenski of Canonsburg, has a 4.33 GPA. She is a member of the Spanish Club, Math League, Concert Band, SEC Club, National Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society.

Samuel Romano Trapuzzano, a student at Trinity Area High School and the son of Edmund and Shawn Romano Trapuzzano of South Strabane Township, has a 4.48 GPA. He is a member of the football, tennis and cup soccer teams, National Honor Society, STEM Team, Speech and Debate Team, Peer Jury, Math League, Youth Traffic Safety Council and Young Democrats/Young Republicans.
