D-Day anniversary to be observed in Peters Twp.
Peters Township Public Library and Memorial Park Post 764 VFW are partnering to host a 72nd anniversary of D-Day and Normandy exhibit from 6:30 to 8:45 p.m. June 6 at the library.
The exhibit will be in the meeting room on the first floor. It will include period uniforms and personal equipment of the armies involved. Items will be displayed on life-size mannequins for maximum authenticity. A WWII-era Jjeep and trailer will be located in the library parking. Artifacts, photographs, documents and memorabilia are from private and personal collections of area veterans and their families, including members of the library’s World War II Discussion Group.
Working together to present this exhibit are George Dvorznak, facilitator of the library’s World War II Discussion Group, and members of the group, which meet at the library from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the last Wednesday of each month. In anticipation of the D-Day anniversary, the library will offer free screenings of “IKE: Countdown to D-Day” at 1 p.m. Thursday and 6:30 p.m. May 25. The film is rated PG and runs 89 minutes.
