The 13th annual Monongahela Valley Hospital/Lois Orange Ducoeur Breast Cancer Walk will be held Oct. 8 on McKean and Fallowfield avenues, Charleroi.

Registration for the one- or two-mile fun walk is being accepted at www.monvalleyhospital.com/fund_development/events, and also will be available the day of the walk, beginning at 9 a.m. The walk starts at 10 a.m. at Market House.

Walkers are asked to make a minimum donation of $10. The walk supports the prevention, early detection and treatment of breast cancer throughout the community and at MVH.

The event will include musical entertainment, simple dance lessons provided by representatives from the Center for Fitness and Health and the Mon Valley YMCA, refreshments, a Chinese auction and health information tables. Breast cancer survivors will be honored before the walk with a group photo, and a moment of silence will be observed to remember those affected by breast cancer and those who lost their battles. All participants will receive a Pink Power towel.

The walk was created to honor the memory of Lois Orange Ducoeur, who lost her battle with cancer in 1965 at age 54. The Ducoeur family operated Orange’s Gift Store and Ducoeur Furniture Store in Charleroi for 118 years.
