North Belle Vernon hosts Scarecrow Festival
A Scarecrow Festival will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. Oct. 8 at North Belle Vernon Community Bank Park & Outdoor Recreation Center.
Thanks to the “Mon River Town Program,” which awarded North Belle Vernon a $500 grant for the festival, the event will include live music by Gas House Annie from 6 to 7:30 p.m., food and craft vendors, games for children and a movie, “The Wizard of Oz.”
Individuals, families, businesses, civic organizations and schools also are invited to participate in the scarecrow beauty pageant by creating their own scarecrow. Registration fee is $10 per scarecrow. Deadline to enter is Oct. 7.
Scarecrows will be set up in the park from 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 8 and will remain on display until Oct. 29, when Halloween Movie Night in the Park will begin at 6:30. A $100 cash prize will be awarded to the winner, who will be determined by cash donations by those who attend.
In addition, a double-elimination cornhole tournament will start at noon. Cost is $20 per team of two contestants, with cash prizes awarded to first- and second-place finishers. Remaining proceeds from the tournament and the festival will benefit Connellsville flood victims.
Scarecrow registration form and rules can be found on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/nbvpark/. Entry forms can be dropped off or mailed to: NBV Borough Building, 503 Speer St., Belle Vernon, PA 15012. Check should be made payable to the NBV Recreation Commission.
