Americanism essay winners
Edwin Scott Linton American Legion Post 175 recently held its Americanism essay winners program. Deb Williams is the Americanism essay chairwoman. The topic was “How Does Learning About Government and Our America Help You Become a Future Guardian of the Liberties of Our Country?”
Winners were:
• Teyler Barnes, daughter of Shelley and Michael Keen and a student at Washington Park Elementary School, second place, third and fourth grade.
• Bailey Batch, daughter of Jodi Batch and a student at Washington High School, second place, ninth and 10th grade.
• Dominic Berdine, son of Rebecca Berdine and a student at Trinity Middle School, first place, fifth and sixth grade.
• Madlyn Dotson, daughter of Julie and Mike Dotson and a student of Trinity Middle School, second place, fifth and sixth grade.
• Mackenzie Halliday, daughter of Dan and Christine Halliday and a student at Trinity High School, second place, 11th and 12th grade.
• Elizabeth Herrnberger, daughter of Paul and Carla Herrnberger and a student at Trinity High School, first place, ninth and 10th grade.
• Myranda Johnson, daughter of Jennifer Johnson and a student at John F. Kennedy Catholic School, second place, seventh and eighth grade.
• Allyson Popeck, daughter of Ed and Amy Popeck and a student at Trinity High School, first place, 11th and 12th grade.
• Olivia Thomas, daughter of Brianne and Homer Thomas and a student at John F. Kennedy Catholic School, first place, seventh and eighth grade.
• Asaiah Villers, son of Maya and James Villers and a student at Washington Park Elementary School, first place, third and fourth grade.
In addition, awards were presented to sixth through eighth-graders for the American Legion essay contest “What Does the American Flag Represent?” Winners were:
• Samantha Dames, daughter of Troy and Liz Dames and a student at Trinity Middle School, first place.
• Alexis Lawton, daughter of Lindsay Lawton and Jeremy Killion and a student at Trinity Middle School, second place.
At the Washington/Fayette and Greene County Council meeting held earlier, Elizabeth Herrnberger won first place in her grade, and Allyson Popeck placed second in her grade.
