CARMICHAELS – Eleven young women will compete for the title of the 64th Pennsylvania Bituminous Coal Queen Sunday evening at Carmichaels Area High School in the Stan Ferek III Auditorium.

The pageant will culminate the end of the reign of 2016 Pennsylvania Bituminous Coal Queen Morgan Voithofer of Carmichaels Area High School. The doors will open at 6 p.m. and the pageant will begin at 7. Admission is $10 a person.

Voithofer will relinquish her crown to one of eleven candidates, who were selected to represent their respective high schools. Each of these young ladies will be a senior this fall.

The candidates are Hunter Miller of Albert Gallatin High School; Lilley Beadling of Bethlehem-Center High School; Kacey Furlong of Brownsville Area High School; Samantha Schwalb of California Area High School; Breanna Coode of Carmichaels Area High School; Kara Grenell of Geibel Catholic High School; Taylor Eddy of Jefferson-Morgan High School; Olivia McKnight of Laurel Highlands High School; Macee Chesney of Mapletown High School; Katrina David of Uniontown High School; and Madison Church of Waynesburg Central High School.

At the end of the competition, awards will be presented to the young ladies who receive the highest scores in the interview, talent, evening gown and on-stage question competitions. Awards will be presented to the young lady who raised the most sponsorship money and to the young lady who is voted by her fellow candidates as Miss Congeniality.

The highlight of the evening will be the naming of the 2017 Pennsylvania Bituminous Coal Queen and her court.

The new queen will spend her week participating in the events of the 64th Pennsylvania Bituminous Coal Show. The show will be celebrated Saturday through Aug. 26.
