Collection benefits McGuffey children
Claysville Volunteer Fire Department hosted its annual Fill the Firetruck Sunday. This year, McGuffey FFA teamed up with the department to spread the joy of Christmas to as many families in the school district as possible. Jessica Hilderbrand, vice president and EMT of the fire department, leads the drive every year to help Santa bring smiles to as many children as possible on Christmas morning.
“I am speechless and blown away by the community’s generosity and the businesses who also contributed,” she said. “Every toy counts. Seeing families bring their children to participate and explain the purpose of our drive makes our members realize this drive just isn’t for the children receiving, but the gift of giving is also just as meaningful.”
MarkWest employees, Northwest Bridgeville Branch, It’s a Jeep Thing and G&D Erectors were just a few of the local businesses that contributed. The McGuffey FFA provided kid’s activities, a bake sale and free refreshments inside the Claysville VFD for those donating to the drive. All toys collected at the event are combined with Teen Action to help provide Christmas to the McGuffey students in need this holiday season. There are also “Santa’s Elves” in the community who help make Christmas miracles happen.
“Thank you just doesn’t seem like a strong enough word,” said fire Chief Dave Hilderbrand.
