West Greene Lions names outstanding students

West Greene Lions Club recently recognized four West Greene High School students as outstanding students. They are Mitchell A. Murdock, Lexie Mooney, Patrick Brady and Peyton Blake.

Mitchell Murdock

Murdock, the son of Lisa M. Murdock of Nineveh, is a member of the Spanish club, ski club and National Technical Honor Society. He participated in track and field and cross country his freshman, sophomore and junior years.

Murdock is cadet commander of Squadron 606, Civil Air Patrol; a member of the Morris Township Volunteer Fire Co. and a volunteer at Bowlby Library’s summer reading program. He is a member of the Nineveh United Methodist Church. Murdock plans to become an emergency medical technician/paramedic and become a member of the U.S. Air Force.

Lexie Mooney

Mooney, the daughter of Heath and Denise Mooney of Sycamore, is secretary of the Class of 2018, the drama club and the National Honor Society. She is a member of the student government association, science club, peer mentoring program, prom committee and calculus club. Mooney is a four-year letterman in volleyball and was co-captain of the varsity volleyball team in 2016 and 2017. She was the most valuable player for her sophomore and junior years and was on the Greene County Athletic Directors Association’s 2016 All County Volleyball Team.

Mooney is a three-year letterman of the West Greene softball team, which won back-to-back section and WPIAL championships and was the state runner-up in 2016 and state champions in 2017. She was on the Greene County Athletic Directors Association’s All County Girls Softball Team in 2017. Mooney was picked for the WPIAL sportsmanship summit in 2014-15 and was a West Greene student athlete top 10 in 2014, 2015 and 2016.

She is a member of the Nineveh Methodist Church and volunteers at the church’s vacation Bible school.

Mooney has been involved in the Greene County 4-H program since 2008. She has been president of the market steer and market lamb clubs since 2014 and is a member of the beef breeding club. She also is a member of the county council and was council treasurer in 2015. Mooney plans to attend West Virginia University and major in nursing. She hopes to become a nurse anesthesiologist.

Patrick Brady

Brady, the son of Tim and Jennifer Brady of Aleppo, is president of the National Technical Honor Society and a student of the Building Construction Occupation program at the Greene County Career and Technology Center.

He is an honor roll student and has been recognized for perfect attendance. He participated in the center’s work-based learning program. Brady is a three-year letterman in both football and baseball at West Greene. He plans to attend PIA’s heavy equipment operating program.

Peyton Blake

Blake, the son of Brian and Beth Blake of Rogersville, is class president, a member of the National Honor Society, International club and quiz bowl team.

He received an academic excellence award, American citizenship award and was awarded a scholastic silver key art award. He has completed community service work at the Rogersville Cemetery. Blake is undecided in regard to plans following high school.
