Waynesburg’s Rotary Club seeks scholarship applicants
Applications for the Rotary Club of Waynesburg’s annual awards scholarships are available to high school seniors in Greene County.
Winners are selected based on academic performance, community service involvement, letters of recommendation and the student’s 400-word essay about “What does the Rotary motto, ‘service above self’, mean to you?”
The club selects two $1,000 recipients each year, said Melody Longstreth, the club’s scholarship chairwoman.
In addition to their essays, students must submit a list of community service experiences, including dates and a brief description of each, a list of school organizations to which the applicant belongs, any offices held and any work experience, if applicable. Two letters of recommendation from a teacher, school administrator, employer, pastor or other adult who has knowledge of the student’s qualifications also are required.
Applications have been sent to the five area high schools, the Greene County Career and Technology Center and Open Door Christian School. Applications also can be obtained by calling 724-627-5926. Applications can be mailed or sent by email upon request. Deadline to apply is May 19.
