Gardening workshops at Mon Valley YMCA
Mon Valley YMCA will host gardening workshops by Little City Gardeners Hazel Murray and Peggy Brown and Penn State Master Gardeners from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturdays as follows:
• March 4 – Jump Start the Season. Topics include Looking Around the Yard and Garden, Evaluating What’s There, Kinds of Gardens, Soil Testing, Spring Cleanup, Late and Early Pruning and Starting Seeds Indoors.
• April 1 – Getting Dirty. Topics include Early Planting, Cool-Weather Vegetables, Rotating Vegetables, To Rototill or Not to Rototill, Fertilizing, Dividing Plants, Gardening in Straw Bales and Raised Beds, Container Gardening and Late Frosts.
• April 29 – Bugs and Such. Topics include Bugs: Good and Bad, Invasive Species, Planting Warm-Weather Plants, When to Water and How to Transplant Seedlings and Young Plants.
• June 3 – Paying it Forward. Topics include Sharing Your Bounty, Moving Things Around, Filling in Garden Blanks with Annuals, Planning for the Future, Edging, Pathways and general information about design
