The Greater Monessen Historical Society, 505 Donner Ave. in Monessen, will host a ‘Heart Bomb’ event from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday.

The event will serve as a fun way to raise awareness of the efforts to save the Monessen Savings and Trust Building at 500 Donner Ave.

Heart Bombs are essentially valentines that are decorated for a specific cause. Creators demonstrate their love and support for a project by making and displaying the valentines. Various preservation groups and historical societies are implementing this project nationwide.

It also is supported and encouraged by Preservation Pennsylvania, as well as the National Trust for Historic Preservation. All supplies will be provided at the event, and light refreshments will be offered.

After creating their hearts, the “artists” will be encouraged to have a photograph taken of them holding their heart in front of the trust building. The photos will be used in a social media hash-tag campaign in conjunction with Preservation Pennsylvania and the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

Some of the photos may be displayed on the national stage in order to promote architectural history and encourage economic development through restoration and reuse of vacant properties.

Those who attend will select a “Best Decorated Heart,” and the creator will be given a small prize.
