Donora Public Library will host Judge Reggie B. Walton, a 1967 graduate of Donora High School, at 2 p.m. Jan. 16.

Walton’s visit will coincide with Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Walton lettered in football and track at Donora, and received a football scholarship to West Virginia State University. He graduated from the university in 1971.

Three years later, he received a law degree from the Washington College of Law at American University.

Walton has served in a number of legal positions. He was executive assistant U.S. Attorney in Washington, D.C., associate judge of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia and chief of the Career Criminal Unit of the U.S. Attorney’s office.

In 2001, he was appointed by President George W. Bush to the bench of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.

He also was appointed to the federal judiciary’s Criminal Law Committee by Chief Justice William Rehnquist; chairman of the National Prison Rape Elimination Commission by President Bush; and chief judge of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court.

Recently, his portrait was hung in the Federal Courthouse Building, an honor reserved for long-term distinguished jurists.

For more information about Walton’s visit, call the library at 724-379-7940.
