Monongahela Rotary ready for Rubber Duckie Derby
Rotarian Debra Mangino numbers rubber ducks for the Monongahela Rotary Club’s Rubber Duckie Derby, which will begin at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.
Up to 2,000 rubber ducks will be released into the Monongahela River.
The Monongahela Rotary Club will host a Rubber Duckie Derby Saturday in the Monongahela River.
Tickets are being sold, with each ticket corresponding to a rubber duck with the same number.
At 6:30 p.m., up to 2,000 rubber ducks will be released into a designated race area in front of the Monongahela Aquatorium. The top three finishers will receive cash prizes as follows: first place, $1,000; second, $500; and third, $250.
“Our club is hosting the Rubber Duckie Derby to provide a fun and wholesome family activity for the Monongahela community, and also to raise money to support our charitable activities,” said Dr. Stephanie Wehrle-Davies, president of the Monongahela Rotary Club.
“Judging by our ticket sales so far, we’re optimistic that the Duckie Derby will be well-received by the community and that we will make it an annual event.”
Tickets can be purchased at the Monongahela branch of cfs bank, Debra Mangino Hair Design, Davis Travel, Stephanie Wehrle-Davies DDS and Webster Chiropractic. Single tickets are $5 each. Quack packs, which include six tickets, are available for $25, and grand packs, which include 25 tickets, are available for $100.
Rubber Duckie T-shirts will be available for purchase at the event; adult sizes are $15 and youth sizes are $10.
Chartered in 1921, the Rotary Club of Monongahela performs numerous community service projects, including distributing Rotary dictionaries to local third-grade students and providing annual scholarships to graduating seniors at Ringgold High School.
The club recently packed food boxes at the Greater Washington County Food Bank, picked up trash on Cemetery Hill coming into Monongahela and donated 100 children’s books to Monongahela Area Library.
