Best-selling author to visit Peters Township library
As part of its “1,000 Books Before Kindergarten” program, Peters Township Public Library will welcome New York Times best-selling author and illustrator Jackie Urbanovic from 6:30 to 8 p.m. March 30 for a night filled with reading, storytelling and drawing.
The evening of early literacy fun is offered as part of the Pennsylvania Library Association’s statewide initiative, PA Forward, to demonstrate that libraries can push Pennsylvania to achieve one of the highest literacy rates in the country, a better trained and more skilled work force and a growing tax base, economy and population.
The “1,000 Books Before Kindergarten” program is free and encourages reading to newborns, infants and toddlers, with the goal to have read 1,000 books before youngsters enter kindergarten. Urbanovic will provide simple ways to help strengthen children’s language skills and build vocabulary by reading aloud. A book signing will follow the program.
Registration is required by emailing programs@ptlibrary.org or calling the Youth Services Department at 724-941-9430, ext. 3.
