Dining with Diabetes series in Waynesburg
Penn State Extension will hold a four-week Dining with Diabetes class on Wednesdays, March 22 through April 12.
The class will be held from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Gateway Senior Housing Community Room, 330 Nazer S., Waynesburg.
Dining with Diabetes is a nationally accredited program for adults with or at risk of developing Type 2 diabetes. Family members and/or friends also are invited to attend the program. A three-month follow-up will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 21.
Participants will learn how to prepare meals that are healthy, simple and taste good. Recipes will be demonstrated, and participants will have the opportunity to taste each one. Participants also will learn the latest information on nutrition, meal planning and exercise, as well as how to understand important diabetes-related medical tests.
A1C, a measure of blood glucose levels and blood pressure, will be taken at the first and follow-up classes. Participants also are given resources, such as an exercise DVD, plate method placemat and a Dining with Diabetes Cookbook.
For individuals with pre-diabetes, lifestyle modification information discussed in this class can prevent individuals from developing Type 2 diabetes and the complications associated with it.
Registration is required and can be made by calling the Penn State Extension Office at 724-837-1402 or going online at http://extension.psu.edu/diabetes/events.
