Filer-Sadlek to mark 98th birthday

Filer-Sadlek Post 954, the American Legion, Jefferson, will celebrate the 98th birthday of the American Legion at 6 p.m. Saturday.

Speaker will be Paul Kennedy, a 40-year member of the American Legion in the 32nd District, Allegheny County. Kennedy has served in various offices in the post, district and department, as well as serving on various committees at the national level. He served as the western vice commander of the Department of Pennsylvania in 2013-14 and is a candidate for the high office of department commander of the Pennsylvania American Legion.

Post 954 also will honor and recognize members with 50, 55 and 65 years of continuous membership in the American Legion. They are John Hvizda III, 50 years; Robert W. Adamson and James Debolt, 55 years; and Donald Broadwater, Albert Davis and Manus Haywood, 65 years.

Students in the Jefferson-Morgan School District who have participated in various American Legion programs also will be honored and receive awards.
