Waynesburg University to host student art show
Waynesburg University’s fine arts department will host a student art show in Benedum Fine Arts Gallery next month.
The exhibit, from April 10-21, will showcase jewelry, sculptures, drawings and paintings. Students will bring their favorite work from the semester to class, where professors will choose a variety for the exhibit.
“Most of the time, it’s the only time they’ll have a piece in a gallery, and it looks different in the gallery than it does in the classroom,” Andrew Heisey, assistant professor of art, said in a news release. “In ceramics, if you make a cup, it’s a nice cup. But when you put it in the gallery with the lights on it, it’s magical.”
Heisey said he hopes the exhibit will encourage other students and community members to create art.
“It’s a great way for people to see what we do, and maybe they see it and think, ‘that’s something I can do, too,'” he said. On the first day of the exhibit, from 6 to 8 p.m., a free reception will be held in the gallery. The gallery is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
