Trustees of the R. Wallace and Margaret Maxwell Scholarship Fund have announced that $25,000 will be available for scholarship awards for the 2017-18 academic school year.

Deadline to apply is May 18. No application form will be used; instead, all qualified applicants must write a letter addressed to R. Wallace and Margaret Maxwell Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 446, Waynesburg, PA 15370.

The letter of application should include the name, address and telephone number of the applicant as well as the high school attended, year of graduation and major field of interest.

If already attending an institution of higher learning, the applicant should provide a copy of a recent transcript. Additional information should include extra-curricular activities, honors and awards, grade-point average and community service activities. Any Greene County resident who completed high school and plans to pursue or is pursuing a bachelor of arts or science degree, associate degree, a certificate of completion or a diploma from a trade school can apply.

Applicants must have applied for other scholarships or grants, and must provide specific figures of amounts applied for and/or amounts received to date.

Applicants also should list anticipated cost of one year of further education under consideration. Proof of acceptance to an institution of higher learning also is required.

The award is needs-based. Information on the applicant’s financial need, such as family economic records (income tax returns, etc.) and employment, along with the number of household dependents also is required.

This will be an annual award under a program established by the estate of the late R. Wallace Maxwell, a Waynesburg attorney, and his wife, Margaret Maxwell. Serving on the scholarship committee are J. William Hook, Doris Neubauer and Heidi Blair.
