DILLINER – Sixty high school students from Greene County’s five school districts recently competed in the 30th annual Greene County Envirothon at Hunting Hills.

Teams of five students tested their environmental knowledge in the areas of soils, forestry, wildlife, aquatics and the 2017 issue, agriculture soil and water conservation stewardship.

Carmichaels team No.1 won this year’s competition with 452 points out of a possible 500 points. Team members included Christina Adams, Joseph Kurincak, Ryan Swartz, Brady Watters and Kaleb Wilson. Team advisers were Kevin Willis and Megan Wojtowicz.

The team will represent Greene County at the Pennsylvania Envirothon, which will be held May 23 and 24 at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown.

Carmichaels Team No. 2 finished second with 402 points, and Carmichaels Team No. 3 was third with 377 points.

The Greene County Envirothon is organized each year by the Greene County Conservation District and is funded through various donations and grants, including the EQT Foundation, Community Foundation of Greene County, PA Envirothon, Hunting Hills, Dominion Energy, Mark IV, Southside Deli and Rice Energy Inc.

Each student on the winning team will receive a $500 college scholarship funded by donations made by these organizations and the Greene County Conservation District.
