Peters Township senior earns Gold Award
Caroline Langley, a senior at Peters Township High School, has earned the Gold Award, the highest achievement in Girl Scouting.
The award, presented by Girl Scouts of Western Pennsylvania, recognizes teen girls who demonstrate extraordinary leadership through sustainable and measurable Take Action projects that address important community needs.
Langley has been a Girl Scout for 11 years and is a Girl Scout ambassador of Troop 54327.
Her project was to design, create and promote a website called the “Nature Passport.” Her goal was to showcase the parks of Western Pennsylvania to encourage more families to visit local parks and explore nature and enjoy the outdoors. She visited and gathered information about 17 regional parks, and designed the website to include ideas for outdoor activities for families at each park. She was supported in her Gold Award effort by her project adviser, Emily Powell-Hyjurik, and her troop leaders, Amy Shope and Rochelle Koerbel. Her Gold Award project began in July 2016 and was completed last fall.
At school, Langley plays on the varsity tennis team and plays clarinet for the Mighty Indian marching band and with the orchestra in the high school musicals. She is a National Merit Scholarship finalist. She plans to attend college to major in biology.
