Members of American Legion Auxiliary Unit 902 will be on the streets in Houston Saturday for “Poppy Roadblock.” They will be accepting donations for bright red flowers made by disabled veterans. Donations are used to assist and support the nation’s veterans. Unit 902 has used Poppy donations to purchase more than 3,400 custom wheelchair bags and walker totes for disabled Veterans in Pittsburgh Hospitals in the past 17 years. Rain date is May 27.
Jefferson Township Historical Society will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday in the White Church Building in Eldersville on Fire Road, across from the fire hall. Guest speaker will be Jim Crouse. “President Lincoln Revisited” will be the focus of the program. Non-members are welcome to attend.
Warrior Trail Association of Greene County will celebrate Pennsylvania Hiking Week with a guided hike Sunday. Participants should meet before 9:30 a.m. at the group’s headquarters building in Fordyce. Bring water and a snack. Long pants and sturdy shoes or hiking boots are recommended. A shuttle will be available to provide hikes of different lengths from 1 to 5 miles. Members will be present to discuss local history and birds. The event is free. Martha Washington Quilters Guild will hold its monthly business meeting at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday on the third floor of Church of the Covenant, 267 E. Beau St., Washington. Yvonne B. will present a program on “Color and Value.” Guests are welcome.
Fourth Presbyterian Church, Washington, will hold a yard sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 3. Lunch will be available, and there will be a bake sale. Tables are available to rent for $10. Peters Township Parks & Recreation will hold the grand opening of Peterswood Park’s “new” amphitheater at 6 p.m. June 3. Joe Gruschecky & The Houserockers will perform, with opening acts by Peters Township High School students. The committee for Greene County Walk to End Alzheimer’s will host a Car and Vendor Show from noon to 4 p.m. June 4 on Carmichaels Area High School’s baseball field. Registration for vehicles, until the show date, is $15. On the day of the event, the registration fee will be $20. Dash plaques will be given to the first 100 vehicles or any motorized vehicle. Trophies will be awarded in several categories, including the best purple vehicle. Admission is free for spectators. Activities include a 50/50 raffle, Chinese auction, food, children’s activities, door prizes, vendors, music and more. St. Ann Roman Catholic Church women’s guild will hold a garage sale at 7:30 a.m. June 3 at Building 8 of Greene County Fairgrounds. If all items do not sell, another garage sale will be held June 6.
