Canonsburg Hospital is ringing in the holiday season with the launch of a new tradition plus the return of a longtime popular event.

The hospital will host its first-ever Light-Up Night celebration from 5 to 7 p.m. today. The highlight of the evening will be the arrival of Santa Claus, who will touch down at the hospital in an AHN LifeFlight helicopter around 5:30 p.m.

Canonsburg’s holiday basket raffle continues through Dec. 11. This marks the 12th year of the event, which has raised more than $145,000. Proceeds will benefit renovations to the hospital’s Emergency Department waiting room.

“Both of these events serve as wonderful opportunities to bring together the local communities Canonsburg Hospital serves,” said Louise Urban, president and CEO.

Once Santa arrives at the hospital Thursday, he will lead the lighting of a large Christmas tree that will be located in the front of the hospital throughout the holiday season. Light-Up Night also will include the children’s choir from St. Patrick Church singing Christmas carols, as well as cookies, hot chocolate and the chance to meet Santa.

Organizers expect there to be as many as 60 baskets for people to bid on, including baskets featuring a 55-inch Samsung TV, All-Clad cookware, Lottery trees and a handmade chess set. The holiday baskets will be displayed in the main lobby of the hospital. Tickets can be purchased from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. The winning tickets will be drawn at 1 p.m. Monday. Winners do not need to be present.
