Greene chamber to honor Baily at annual banquet

Greene County Chamber of Commerce will host its 30th annual membership banquet and presentation of the Distinguished Service Award on Oct. 21 in the Benedum dining hall at Waynesburg University.
The Distinguished Service Award is bestowed based on lasting contributions to community welfare, participation in civic organizations, evidence of leadership ability and success in vocation.
The recipient is Chuck Baily, whose family helped found Randolph and Baily Agency in 1880. From a young age, Baily was taught that his family’s role was more of a stewardship, not only for their family, staff, and clients’ assets, but for the welfare of the community.
Bailey has served on several local advisory boards and worked in a number of capacities with at-risk young men. He is a co-founder of Greene County Habitat for Humanity and the EAL/Greene County College Opportunity program, which mentored more than 70 high school students who wanted to be the first members of their families to go to college. Fifty achieved that goal.
Bailey is the president of Rocky Bleier’s Beating the Odds Foundation.
He and his wife, Shirley, have three sons and help with 14 grandchildren, who are their closest neighbors. The couple, who have experience in college ministry, remain committed to mentoring college students.
Receiving the McCracken Legacy Award, given to a business or organization that has demonstrated ambition, profitability and growth, and a commitment to community involvement, is Waynesburg University.
The Waynesburg University community contributes approximately 50,000 service learning and community/civic engagement hours each year. Those hours provide a total annual economic impact of approximately $1.2 million.
The university is one of only 21 Bonner Scholar schools in the country.
The chamber, with 365 members, serves the community throughout the year and, for 27 years, has given a scholarship to a graduating Greene County high school senior who is going to a college, university or trade school.
It also works with the business community to bring services and information to its members and provides ribbon cuttings as part of grand opening celebrations for new member businesses in the county.
The public may purchase tickets to the event at the Chamber office, 143 E. High St., Waynesburg, prior to Monday. For more information, call 724-627-5926 or info@greenechamber.org.
