Mom of Ft. Cherry graduate forms Blue Star group

The Southwestern Pennsylvania Blue Star Mothers of America became the newest national chapter at a ceremony presided over by Yvonne Darragh, founding officer and chapter president, at Covenant Community Presbyterian Church on Greentree Road.
Darragh, who grew up in a Gold Star family, founded the chapter in honor of her daughter, Second Lt. Margo Darragh, a 2012 graduate of Fort Cherry High School and 2016 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy. Margo Darragh is serving with the 1st Combat Engineer Battalion, Marine Corps Base, Camp Pendleton, San Diego, Calif.
“As Blue Star Mothers, our job is to support each other and uphold our children in their service to America,” said Yvonne Darragh. “It’s a profound honor, especially in the 75th anniversary year of Blue Star Mothers, to introduce this national chapter here in the Pittsburgh area.”
Blue Star Mothers of America has over 6,000 members from more than 200 chapters throughout the nation. Their organizational overview states, “We are mothers, stepmothers, grandmothers, foster mothers and female legal guardians who have children serving in the military, guard or reserves, or children who are veterans. We support each other and our children while promoting patriotism. Our organization focuses on our mission every single day and will never, ever, forsake our troops, our veterans or the families of our fallen heroes.”
The new chapter was installed by Lori Theume, fourth vice president of Blue Star Mothers of America, who conducted the ceremony via telephone, and Luke Darragh, who served as chaplain. Following the chapter installation, five officers were duly installed. In addition to Darragh as president, officers include Leslie Majocka, vice president; Christine Miller, financial secretary; Marie Pfau, recording secretary; and Polly Ajak Rosenberger, treasurer.
The new chapter is eager to welcome new members and is open to mothers, stepmothers, grandmothers, foster mothers and female legal guardians in the Southwestern Pennsylvania region who have children serving in the military, guard or reserves, or children who are veterans.
