A first-ever library Turkey Trot will be held Nov. 18. The 5K run/walk and 1K children’s fun run will raise money to fulfill Eva K. Bowlby’s mission, “to provide through the use of traditional and emerging technologies, materials and services for community residents of all ages.” The event will begin at the library gazebo. “The Wobble Gobble” children’s run will begin at 9 a.m. followed by the 5K at 9:30. Awards will be given to the top three male and female participants in each age category. Everyone will receive a race Tshirt and children will receive “The Great Turkey Race” by Steve Metzger, who will be present for a meet and greet. Registration fees are: $15 ($20 for day-of registration) for the children’s run and 5K walkers; and $25 ($30 day-of registration) for 5K and Phantom runners. Donations will be accepted. A Holiday Open House will be from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Dec. 6 with a cookie walk, cookie raffle, toy basket raffle, live music, story time and pictures with Santa.

Girls Who Code meet at 6 p.m. Nov. 1. Girls Who Code is a free after-school program for 6-12 grade girls to have fun while learning and using computer science to create websites, apps, or even robots! Club members work in teams to design and build a Computer Science “CS” Impact Project that solves real world problems they care about through code. The CHCL Cupcake Challenge will be held at 5:30 pm. Nov. 2. Cupcakes will be provided and teens and tweens will have the option to decorate them with all kinds of food and candies. Bring Nature to Your Backyard at 11:30 a.m. Nov. 4. Learn from the Allegheny Land Trust how you can create a wildlife wonderland in your yard! Important plants for birds and insects will be discussed, as well as how to create the perfect homes for creatures such as birds, bats and toads. This program is recommended for adults and teens ages 12 and up. Registration is not required for this event, but strongly encouraged in order to ensure enough materials for all attendees. YA Reads meets at 6 p.m. Nov. 14. Ages 13 and up who love young adult fiction are welcome.
Crafter’s Day is held at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 16. Crafters of all types are welcome. Each crafter day also will include printed instructions and a live demonstration on how to make a simple craft.
Grown-Up Coloring is held from 5 to 6 p.m. the fourth Wednesday of each month. The library will provide coloring pages, markers, crayons and colored pencils and tea.
Pajama Storytime is held at 6 p.m. Nov. 20. This program is for infants to 5 years old with a caregiver, including gentle language development with stories, finger plays, songs and movement. Pajama attire welcome.
Yoga for Beginners is held at 5:30 p.m. every Monday. Bring a mat, a towel and some water. Cost is $1 per person.

Preschool story time for 3-5 year olds with a caregiver will be held at 11:30 a.m. every Thursday. There are stories, crafts and other fun that helps build social skills and gets kids ready for preschool or kindergarten.

International Games Day will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on Nov. 18. Citizens Library is an officially registered site for IGD, which is celebrated in thousands of libraries all around the world. Come for an afternoon of board games, card games, Wii games and snacks. This free program is open to all ages. Registration is recommended by Nov. 16.
Tech Tuesday will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 21. The public is welcome to play with tech toys, from robots to VR to the sound and video studio in the downstairs Maker Space Studio.

The Children’s Department November Book of Month is “Four Friends in Autumn” by Tomie DePaola. The random drawing contest is open to all children 12 years and under. The winning entry will be drawn Nov. 30.
Wind Down and Paint will be held at 6 p.m. Dec. 1. BYOB to this event, where participants, who must be at least 21 years old, will paint their own wine glass with step-by-step instructions with local artist Katelynn Falleroni. Appetizers will be served. The cost is $30 person and registration is encouraged.
Teen Time is held every Tuesday from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Teenagers are invited to hang out with friends, play with Maker Space tech toys, board games, video games and more.

Thanks to the Grable Foundation’s funding of the Young Library Explorers program, there are 69 kits for infants, toddlers, and elementary children. Themes include shapes, STEM, measurement and dinosaurs. These themed kits are filled with age-appropriate educational toys and other materials and are available to borrow.
