Make-A-Wish is looking for individuals in Greene County to volunteer their time and friendship to assist with wish fulfillments.

To become a volunteer, individuals must be at least 21 years old, pass a criminal background check and attend a one-time training session.

The next training session will be held at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 14 in the Make-A-Wish office on the 37th floor of the Gulf Tower, 707 Grant St., Pittsburgh. Registration begins at 8 a.m.

As members of “wish teams,” volunteers are an important component of fulfilling wishes. Working together, the wish team is assigned to a child in their area, meets with the family and aids in determining the most suitable wish for the child. Volunteers also may be asked to represent the organization at outreach events, fundraisers and check presentations.

Those who are interested should call the Make-A-Wish office at 800-664-9474 to complete the application process in time for the mandatory training.

For more information, contact volunteer manager Amanda Filsinger at 412-941-9474 or afilsinger@pawv.wish.org.

Make-A-Wish Greater Pennsylvania and West Virginia is a nonprofit organization that grants wishes to 2 1/2- to 18-year-olds with life-threatening medical conditions. The local chapter is one of the most active in the country, having fulfilled more than 18,000 wishes.
