After “Double Trouble,” other concerts include “Ho, Ho, Ho with the WSO” Dec. 2 and 3, “Music to the Rescue” Feb. 17 and “Abracadabra” May 5.

The Washington Symphony Orchestra will open its 16th season with “Double Trouble” at 8 p.m. Oct. 14 at Trinity High School.

School doors will open at 6 p.m.; auditorium doors will open at 7:15.

One of “Double Trouble’s” featured pieces will be the first movement of Brahms’ “Double Concerto,” played by Adam Liu, assistant principal cellist with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, and former PSO violinist Roy Sonne.

Another classic that will be featured is Bartok’s “2nd Movement of Concerto for Orchestra.”

For fun, the WSO will pit Mozart’s “Eine Kleine Nachtmusik” against P.D.Q. Bach’s “Eine Kleine Nichtmusik,” and Meacham’s “American Patrol” against Glen Miller’s version. A tuba and piccolo will vie for supremacy at center stage, and a pair of “Duelin’ Fiddles” will compete for top string.

In honor of the concert’s theme, the WSO is offering free admission for both identical and fraternal twins. Both twins must attend to receive free admission. Just check in at the will-call desk to receive tickets. Photos of all participating twins will be posted on social media.

“Double Trouble” will kick off a four-concert lineup packed with a diverse mix of classical and pop selections for the 2017-18 season. Other concerts include:

• “Ho, Ho, Ho with the WSO” – 8 p.m. Dec. 2 and 3 p.m. Dec. 3. Traditional carols will be featured, along with a sampling of character dances from Tchaikovsky’s “Nutcracker.” The WSO will be joined by the Washington County All-Star High School Choir and the California University of Pennsylvania choir.

• “Music to the Rescue” – 3 p.m. Feb. 17. Rossni’s “William Tell Overture” and Wagner’s “Siegfried’s Funeral March” from Gotterdammerung will be played alongside John Williams pieces, such as “Superman” and “Raiders March.”

• “Abracadabra” – 8 p.m. May 5. This concert will feature a magical mix of popular and classical music, featuring everything from Mozart to music from the “Harry Potter” films. Two magicians will be strolling through the concert lobby, and the Young Artist Competition winner will be introduced.

Tickets for “Double Trouble” start at $17. However, the WSO offers big savings through its season ticket program. Season tickets for students and senior citizens 65 and older start at $52 – a savings of 24 percent over purchasing tickets individually. Adult season tickets cost $68, a savings of 23 percent.
