Johnston – 100 years

Robert H. Johnston of Canonsburg celebrated his 100th birthday with his family at a dinner and birthday party recently at the Springhouse Restaurant in Washington. Local family members as well as relatives from Tennessee, New Jersey and Maryland were present for the celebration.

Mr. Johnston was born January 2, 1918, in Canonsburg.

He was married for 57 years to the late Dorothy Ott Johnston, whom he enjoyed traveling with in their motor home after Mr. Johnston retired from Continental Can Company in West Mifflin.

Their children are the late Robert W. Johnston, Roger W. (Chris) Johnston of Greencastle, Pa., and Linda Johnston Hilderbrand of Canonsburg. Their grandchildren are: Chelsea Johnston Kingsley, and Hali Kay Hilderbrand and David Hilderbrand. Great-grandchildren are Cameron and Chloe Kingsley.

Mr. Johnston continues to be an active member at Canonsburg U. P. Church, where he has been a lifelong member. He is a member of Buffalo Grange and previously, Millers Run Grange. He also participates in activities at Midway Senior Citizens. He enjoys gardening and entering homegrown produce and craft items in the Washington County Agricultural Fair, and continues to be an avid car enthusiast.
