Dawn Kramer of Burgettstown received the Stunda Good Egg Memorial Award at the Burgettstown Community Library on June 11 for her dedication to bettering the community. The Burgettstown Community Library’s board of directors hosted the event, and the Stunda Family attended to support the memory of John and Barbara Stunda. Their son, John Stunda, presented the award to Dawn.
Kramer has volunteered for the past three years as a Court Appointed Special Advocate in Washington County. Kelley Swift, the Executive Director for CASA for Kids, Washington, said, “(Dawn) has advocated tirelessly for three different children who have experienced abuse and neglect and who were placed in out-of-home placement. She is dedicated, caring and committed. She has donated over 100 hours of her time in the course of her three years volunteering, visiting with the children and young people she is advocating for and, learning about their needs and advocating for them in Washington County Dependency Court. In addition to her work as a CASA volunteer, Dawn has donated time to train other community members to become CASA volunteers. She exemplifies a caring, dedicated and giving community member in the Burgettstown community.”
Beyond her work for CASA, Kramer is an advocate for the arts. She has worked with many local theaters and has touched many lives in this way, sharing the joys of art with youths and adults alike. Kramer is a loving wife, proud mother and devoted grandmother.
In 1980, the Friends of the Library created the “Good Egg” award to recognize Burgettstown/tri-state area members who selflessly donated time, financial support or expertise to improve the area’s quality of life.
In 1985, the award became the Stunda Good Egg Memorial Award when a June 1984 automobile accident tragically claimed the lives of Barbara and John Stunda. The Stunda family requested that the Good Egg Award be given in their parents’ memory. The Stunda family presents an annual donation to the library and a ceramic plaque to the awardee.
