WHS donates mannequins
Washington Health System’s School of Nursing is giving students in Penn Commercial’s health care program a leg up on their clinical training.
The nursing school recently donated 15 simulation manikins – which are mannequins used for teaching anatomy – to Penn Commercial.
The simulators – five adult, two pediatric, and eight infant wired and tethered manikins – had been used in WHS Rice Energy Family Simulation Center.
Penn Commercial will use the manikins to teach medical assistant skills and licensed practical nurse skills, including skin care and proper positioning.
Penn Commercial is in the planning phase of adding the simulation lab to their health care training program, and will begin renovations soon.
Studies show simulation, including using the lifelike, pretend patients, is the best way to educate and train health care professionals in order to improve patient safety and overall health care outcomes.
