Washington County woman dies after vehicle goes into reservoir
A Washington County woman died Friday morning when her vehicle went into Boone Reservoir in Peters Township.
Jessica Williams, 44, of Peters, was driving south on Sherwood Drive at 12:30 a.m. when her vehicle went through the guardrail on the intersecting Waterdam Road, according to Washington County Coroner Timothy Warco.
Peters Township police closed Waterdam between Robinhood and Canterbury lanes while they searched the reservoir for the vehicle, which was recovered later that morning. At about 8 a.m., the vehicle was towed from the scene.
According to a press release from Peters police, the department received a call from a person who heard a speeding car on Sherwood and then a loud crash. First responders found the vehicle about 160 feet from land submerged in about eight feet of water.
Fire departments from Elizabeth Township and Port Vue provided divers and an underwater drone. The divers hooked up the car to a tow truck so it could be pulled from the water. Police said Williams’ body was found inside.
Williams was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:36 a.m. According to the coroner, she was not wearing a seat belt.
Also responding to the scene were fire departments from Peters and North Strabane townships.
