PITTSBURGH (AP) – Pittsburgh City Council declared today Wiz Khalifa Day in honor of the pot-promoting rapper who graduated from a Pittsburgh city high school and will be performing tonight at Consol Energy Center.
The 25-year-old, who frequently raps about smoking marijuana, appreciated being on hand for Tuesday’s proclamation and said, “It means a lot to me, being a kid in Pittsburgh and riding buses, and going to school and just loving Pittsburgh so much.”
Khalifa’s hit song, “Black and Yellow” pays tribute to the city’s sport teams and was released on his first album, “Rolling Papers.”
Khalifa was born Cameron Jabriz Thomaz in Minot, N.D., but attended Pittsburgh city schools after moving here in 1996. He graduated from Taylor Allderdice High School in 2006.
