Locomotion Weekend at the Carnegie Science Center will feature dozens of model train layouts, rail-related exhibits and hands-on activities for train enthusiasts.

Hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Visitors are encouraged to bring their model trains for a free checkup by members of the Train Collectors Association-Fort Pitt Division and columnist Joe Mania of Classic Toy Trains magazine. The checkup will include basic repairs, routine cleaning and oiling.

Representatives from the Duquesne Incline, Pennsylvania Trolley Museum and Scenic Express will have demonstration tables and activities, and the Train Collectors Association’s Kids Club will offer interactive train layouts.

Operating train layouts provided by the Keystone Division of the National Model Railroad Association, the Fort Pitt Hi-Railers and the South Hills Model Railroad Club will be on display throughout the building.

Visitors also will have a chance to explore the Miniature Railroad & Village and see this year’s newest additions: a replica of the original scoreboard and flagpole at Forbes Field, the barn at Manchester-Farms and hundreds of miniature lights at Luna Park.

Locomotion Weekend activities are free with general admission to the Science Center. For an extra fee, visitors can see the documentary “Rocky Mountain Express” and “Polar Express” at the Rangos Omnimax Theater. For prices and show times, visit CarnegieScienceCenter.org.
