State Rep. Ted Harhai will serve as guest reader Monday during story time at Monessen Library. A reception will begin at 5:30 p.m., with the Monessen Historical Society displaying photos and artifacts on Monessen’s industrial past. At 6, Harhai will read “No Star Nights” by Anna Egan Smucker. The book describes what life was like in a steel town when the mills were still operating. Children will be invited to create a crystalline “depression plant” on a lump of coal. Free flea market will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday at John Wesley United Methodist Church, 35 Central Ave., Washington. Everything is free. Spaghetti dinners will be available for purchase from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cost is $6. Eat in or take out. For more information, call 724-225-5808. Gold rush event for unwanted gold or silver begin at 8 a.m. Nov. 8 and 9 at Monongahela Valley Hospital. Sponsored by the Auxiliary of Mon-Vale Health Resources Inc. Spaghetti dinner sponsored by Friends of Fredericktown Area Public Library will be held Nov. 13 at Hugo’s Restaurant on Route 40 in Centerville. Seating times are 4 to 5:30 p.m. and 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tickets are $6 for adults and $3 for 3- to 10-year-olds. Children younger than 3 eat free. Tickets are available at the library or from any friend or board member. Wellness Day will be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Nov. 16 at Peters Township Public Library. Nurses from Senior Life will provide free blood pressure checks, and a nurse from Hometown Pharmacy/RX Map will provide free heel bone density screenings. Informational material about healthy living also will be available. Registration is requested. World War II discussion group will meet from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Nov. 28 at Peters Township Public Library.
