Zonta chapter to celebrate Rose Day
The Washington County Chapter of Zonta will honor five women during its Rose Day celebrate Sunday at the Double Tree Hotel, Meadow Lands. The event begins at 1:30 p.m .
Those who will be honored are:
• Stella Banas, Community Service Award;
• Washington Mayor Brenda Davis, Government Award;
• Paulette Marasco-Stout, Award for the Arts;
• Myra Oleynik, Education Award;
• Terri Startare, Business Award.
Also, Zonta will present two scholarships to nontraditional students at Washington Hospital School of Nursing and California University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing.
Zonta International, founded in 1919 in Buffalo, N.Y., is composed of executives and professionals working together to advance the status of women worldwide through service and advocacy.
The Washington County Chapter, which was founded in 1985, adheres to the international mission and partners with the Washington County
Women’s Shelter, Dress for Success, Washington Christian Outreach and the City Mission to help further the status of women locally.
The club holds two annual events that recognize the importance of service by women in the community. In addition to Rose Day, Zonta hosts the Amelia Earhart Recognition Dinner, which honors community service activities by female high school juniors in every school in Washington County.
