Kyle Mottola, 17, of Venetia has earned his Eagle Scout Award, the highest advancement award offered by Boy Scouts of America.

Candidates must earn 21 merit badges and successfully complete a community-, church- or synagogue-related service project to earn their Eagle award. Among notable Eagle Scouts are President Gerald R. Ford, astronaut Neil A. Armstrong, cinematographer Steven Spielberg and FBI director William Sessions.

Mottola, son of Gregory and Susan Mottola, is a member of St. Benedict the Abbot Church, Troop 1313, and chose to remove an old damaged walkway in front of the rectory of the church. The walkway was a hazard and was unsightly.

The project included demolishing and removing 450 square feet of concrete, then pouring a new cement walkway and planting a new garden in front of the walkway.

Greguric contracting, Howard Concrete, Evey True Value Hardware and Donaldson Supply Co. donated time and materials.

Mottola has served as a troop guide and received the Boy Scout Honors Society Order of the Arrow. Mottola is a member of St. Benedict the Abbot Church and a senior at Peters Township High School, where he is active in the marching band and National Honor Society. He also is a member of the Bridgeville Brass.

He will be recognized in January during a ceremony at St. Benedict the Abbot.
