Tiny Tim Tomato Project for 2- to 6-year-olds will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday. Master Gardener Bob Bedison will guide youngsters on planting and growing their own healthy tomato plant, and there will be special stories and crafts about gardening. Call the library to register.

Summer Reading Kick-Off Festival will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 22 on the lawn. The theme is “Dig into Reading!” Call the library to register. In conjunction with the reading clubs, the Family Literacy Department is enrolling children in its “Dig Into Learning!” program so students can keep math and social studies skills sharp during the summer. All summer reading clubs and story hours will begin July 8. Free lunches will be provided at summer reading programs by the Greater Pittsburgh Area Food Bank.

Professional organizer Donna Rossa will offer four sessions in June at Chartiers-Houston Library. Sessions begin at 6:30 p.m. Mondays as follows:
• June 3 – Power of Feng Shui;
• June 10 – Eliminating Paper Clutter;
• June 17 – Clutter Busters for Kids;
• June 24 – Control Your Closets.

Stitching Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday. Note the new day. Yarn, knitting needles and crochet hooks are available, and instructors can answer questions and teach simple designs. Participants also can bring their own supplies or current projects.
Summer Reading Club registration will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m . June 17, with games and activities. The theme is “Dig into Reading.” Reading records are available for all ages through Aug. 16. Programs begin the last week of June and run for five weeks. Program times and dates are as follows:
• Preschool Summer Story Time, 3- to 5-year-olds, 10:30 to 11 a.m. Thursdays. Children must be 3 by June 1. Enrollment is limited.
• Kindergarten Special K Story Time, for children entering first grade, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursdays. Enrollment is limited.
• School-age Kids’ Days, for students who have finished first through sixth grades, 11 a.m. to noon Tuesdays.
• Family Nights, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays.
All programs will include stories, games, crafts, movies, special guests and other activities. There also will be two Friday field trips, which are open to any Summer Reading Club member who has participated in at least one other program.
In addition, first- through fifth-graders can play “Questyinz,” an interactive online game. Students will choose a topic, or “quest,” that will send them to the library, outside, or on to other experiences. They will then return to the computer to report. There also are quests for those who choose to simply read and report.

Teen Summer Reading Club registration will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 17. This year, teens in seventh through 12th grade will look “Beneath the Surface,” tracking their reading habits and attending programs on survival skills, music, book clubs and geocaching, writing workshops and art competitions.
Beneath the Cover Art competition for seventh- through 12th-graders will be held June 17 to July 22. Teens’ book-cover designs will be displayed in the Teen Space, and winning entries will be announced July 26 at the Summer Reading Club party. BTS Challenge No. 1: Express Yourself will be held June 24-30. It is the first of five challenges for teens. Each week’s challenge also will be posted on the library’s Facebook page and website.
Writers’ Wordshop for teens will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. June 25. Teens will make their own journals and hone their writing skills through a variety of activities.
DIRT Book Club: Artemis Fowl will be held from 11 a.m. to noon June 27. The library will host its first summer book club for fourth- through seventh-graders. “Dig Into Reading Tweens” will feature “Artemis Fowl” by Eion Colfer. Snacks and drinks will be provided.
