BEAVERTOWN (AP) – Family, fans and neighbors remembered former teen heartthrob Davy Jones with a concert and statue unveiling in central Pennsylvania.

A crowd gathered Saturday for the celebration at the carnival grounds in Beavertown, about 120 miles northwest of Philadelphia. PennLive.com reports Jones’ daughters, Jessica and Annabel, attended.

The lead singer of The Monkees had lived in the small Snyder County community for years because it reminded him of his native England. Jones died of a heart attack last year at age 66.

At Saturday’s event, sculptor Chuck LaMark displayed a prototype of a statue of Jones holding his signature tambourine.

WNEP-TV reports the final cast of the statue will be placed in a defunct church that Jones wanted to turn into a theater and museum. That conversion effort continues.
