The library is operating on its summer business hours. They are noon to 7 p.m. Monday; 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday; and 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.

Summer Reading program is available for 6- to 12-year-olds from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesdays, beginning July 8. Theme is “Dig Into Reading!” There will be a different theme each week. In conjunction with the reading clubs, the Family Literacy Department is enrolling children in its “Dig Into Learning” program, which concentrates on social studies, science and math skills. Children also will be able to participate in a challenge program called “Gnome, Sweet Gnome.” A free lunch and movie also will be provided every Wednesday. Summer Reading clubs include:

• Young adults, 13- to 18-year-olds – 4 p.m. Wednesdays.

• School-age children, 6- to 8-year-olds – 10:30 a.m. Wednesdays.

• School-age children, 9- to 12-year-olds – 1:30 p.m. Wednesdays.

• Preschool, 3- to 4-year-olds – 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays.

• Preschool, 4- to 5-year-olds – 1:30 p.m. Tuesdays.

• Toddler Share, 18- to 35-month-olds – 5 p.m. Tuesdays or 10:30 a.m. Thursdays.

• Stories Under the Moon, 3- to 6-year-olds – 5 p.m. Wednesdays.

• Baby Lapsit, up to 12 months old – 1 p.m. Thursdays.

School-aged children have the option of staying all day and alternating between Dig Into Reading and Dig Into Learning. Teens can participate in the “Beneath the Surface” program, and adults can participate in the “Groundbreaking Reads” program. Call the library to register for any summer reading program,.

Book Club will meet at 5 p.m. July 16. “Murder in Greene” by local author John Dorean will be discussed.

The Washington Wild Things and public libraries have partnered to offer a special night acknowledging area readers and their achievements on Aug. 21. Call the library for ticket prices.

The library will take a trip to the Pittsburgh Zoo and Aquarium on Aug. 17. Tickets can be purchased at the library. • July 8 – Yo-yo competitor, juggler and comedian Mark Hayward will present a family-oriented show at 6 p.m. Hayward was the 1995 Masters Division champion at the World Yo-Yo contest. He has appeared on “The David Letterman Show” and performs around the country. He will have a variety of yo-yos for sale.

• July 15 – Pool party at Wana-B Park pool for Summer Reading Program children and their families, 7 to 8:45 p.m. Registration is required by contacting the library.

• July 22 – Greene County coal mining, presented by Alpha Natural Resources training staff members, 6 p.m. Children will be able to try on miners wear and viewing equipment, and they will learn how coal is mined today. The program is appropriate for all ages.
