Washington Financial awards scholarships to area students

Washington Financial awarded 10 scholarships to local students to help offset the cost of their post-secondary education. Scholarships are awarded based on academic achievement and community service, and a member of their family must be a Washington Financial customer.

Scholarship winners are:

• Taylor Allen, a graduate of Trinity High School who participated in Washington Hospital’s summer program and volunteers in the gift shop, mail department and visitor’s center. She plans to study criminal justice at Waynesburg University.

• Desiree Dever, a graduate of Avella High School and Western Area Career and Technology Center. Dever is a volunteer firefighter for West Middletown Volunteer Fire Department and participates in Toys for Tots and food drives with WACTC. She plans to study nursing at Wheeling Jesuit University.

• James S. Dlugos III, a graduate of Bishop Canevin High School who has logged more than 200 hours volunteering with the Boy Scouts of America, aiding in fundraisers, clean-ups and food drives. He plans to study finance, labor studies and employment relations at Penn State University, where he has been accepted into the Schreyer Honors College.

• Jake Floyd, a graduate of Peters Township High School who has volunteered at Canonsburg General Hospital and Acqua Blu Medical Spa, where he developed patient education photo books for dermatology and laser practices. He plans to study engineering and perform research at Duke University.

• Natalie Gloady, a graduate of Washington High School who volunteers at City Mission and Students Helping Others and is a peer leader at Teen Outreach. She plans to study public relations at Waynesburg University.

• Mikayla Lunardini, a graduate of McGuffey High School. Lunardini is a youth co-chairwoman for McGuffey’s Relay for Life and is involved with Bethel Presbyterian Church, where she volunteered on a mission trip building houses in Ashville, N.C. She plans to study business at Washington & Jefferson College.

• Emily McPeake, a graduate of Canon-McMillan High School who volunteers with Meals on Wheels, delivering food to the homebound. She plans to study biology at the University of Pittsburgh.

• Leah Marie Seader, a graduate of Bethlehem-Center High School who has logged more than 400 hours volunteering with the Leo Club, Washington Family Center After-School program, First Christian Church and the City Mission. She plans to study mathematics and engineering at California University of Pennsylvania.

• Nicole Stevenson, a graduate of Chartiers-Houston High School who is involved in St. Michael’s Church, the Leo Club and Canonsburg Hospital, where she volunteer in the snack shop. She plans to study business at Robert Morris University.

• Jordan T. Yates, a graduate of Chartiers-Houston High School. Yates volunteers with Boy Scouts of American, the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation, 4-H and Shriner’s Hospital. He plans to study mechanical engineering and computer science at Ohio Northern University.
