Morgantown Dance Studio and Morgantown Ballet will perform “The Nutcracker” at 2:30 and 7:30 p.m. Nov. 23 and 2:30 p.m. Nov. 24 at the Metropolitan Theatre in Morgantown, W.Va.

The cast includes 108 local and regional dancers from three states and special guest artists Amanda Cochrane and Nurlan Abougaliev from the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre as the Sugar Plum Fairy and her cavalier.

Choreographer Desiree Witt said there will be two new dances.

“We found a musical excerpt that most companies don’t use or know about,” she said. “The piece was removed after the first rehearsal as Petipa was not fond of it. Better known as ‘The English Jig,’ it was removed from the published score, but we were able to be include it in our version thanks to its existence in a piano score orchestrated by John Lanchbery.”

The second new work incorporates one of Tchaikovsky’s finest waltzes, “Serenade for Strings in C Major, Opus 48: Waltz,” a ribbon dance that resembles a maypole or carousel.

To purchase tickets, visit www.morgantowndance.org or call 304-292-3266. Tickets also will be available at the theater from 5 to 8p.m. Nov. 19-22 and two hours before each show.
