Washington Symphony Orchestra will present its 13th annual holiday concert, “Ho Ho Go with the WSO.” The concert will be performed at 8 p.m. Dec. 6 and 3 p.m. Dec. 7 in the Trinity High School auditorium.
The concert will feature sacred Christmas music, popular and contemporary holiday numbers and a trio of pieces selected by Maestro Yugo Ikach to highlight three different sections of the orchestra. The brass section is showcased in Leroy Anderson’s “Bugler’s Holiday”; the strings are spotlighted in “Holiday for Strings,” the theme song for the “Red Skelton Show”; and the percussion section stars in an arrangement of “Carol of the Bells,” created especially for the WSO by local composer Dominic Carrola.
Selections from the film, “Polar Express,” are on the program and the electric guitar and bass will join the orchestra for the Trans-Siberian Orchestra piece, “Winter Palace.”
“Russian Christmas Music” by American composer Alfred Reed also is on the program. The piece was originally performed in Denver, Colo., in December 1944 at a concert aimed at improving U.S.-Soviet relations. It is based on a 16th-century Russian Christmas carol.
The All-Star High School Choir, which consists of students from Washington County’s 14 school district, also will perform.
Tickets are available online at www.washsym.org, by calling 888-718-4253, at Citizens and Peters Township Public libraries and at all branches of Washington Financial Bank. Tickets also will be available at the door.
